SUD ARCHITECTES - SUD GROUPE

PROJECTS Public buildings

Diplomatic Campus of the French Embassy - Beijing (China)

SET TARGET :
Construction of a public building that is both open and enclosed, symbolising its spirit of welcome and its impregnability. The building must also include a school (the Lycée Français), located within the diplomatic area, and take into account the limited footprint available: 7,000 sqm.

THE SOLUTION OFFERED BY SUD ARCHITECTES :
Favouring the operation of both the Embassy and the residence by creating an imposing building where an atrium, acting as a centre of gravity, houses the publicly accessible areas on the first two levels. The embassy departments are located on the last two floors, in a restricted and protected area. The architecture of the residence is based on simplicity: symmetry, sober lines, direct access to the garden, reception rooms on the ground floor and, upstairs and facing the South, accommodation units. The terracing of the gardens enables to create selective access rights and to guarantee the privacy of the various levels.
