Galeria Katowicka - Katowice (Poland)
SET TARGET :
Transforming the Katowice train station into a new-generation intermodal hub.
THE SOLUTION OFFERED BY SUD ARCHITECTES :
The country's first large, new-generation, intermodal hub: an ambitious and relevant project that creates synergies between the various functions - communication, trade, offices, leisure and catering.
The management of flows has been entirely rethought so as to give a central place to pedestrians: motorised traffic (access to the stations and parking areas, deliveries) is moved below ground to ensure smooth access and transition between the northern and southern parts of the city. The pedestrian avenue has been extended so as to reach the station's entrance and guarantee a safe and comfortable access. Connections between the various functions will thus be possible without having to go outside.
The architectural design builds on history and uses the features of the Polish "brutalist" style of the 60's & 70's.
