SET TARGET :
Transformation of old wine warehouses into a 14-screen multiplex cinema while preserving the site's heritage value.
THE SOLUTION OFFERED BY SUD ARCHITECTES :
Preserving the roughness and cragginess of the wine warehouses and showing off to advantage its inside volume by unveiling its spectacular framework. This choice required the design of a simple ground-floor building, in order to avoid the necessity of providing the roof framing with a fire protection system, and thus, led to the addition of major volumes next to the warehouses, notably the car park of 860 spaces. The use of smooth and apparently light materials, mainly metal, alleviates the extent of the volumes and highlights the contrast between the entirely reversible character of the building's new purpose and its permanent heritage value.
