ECOQUARTIER DE POZNAN Poznan (Pologne) - 2021

General presentation

Contexte & enjeux

SUD Polska won the international architecture and urban planning competition for a ten-hectare eco-district on the military site of the city of Poznan. Its restructuring will be carried out through the revitalisation of five historic buildings and the creation of eleven new buildings in a rich landscaping open to the city.

The new district will develop a strong mix of programmes with housing, offices, shops, public facilities, etc. The remarkable military buildings will form the emblematic framework of a new park which will host most of the public activities, making the site a new intense district of the city.

The project’s ambition is to create a new urban eco-district, which will conserve the existing natural heritage and welcome new varieties of vegetation, thus installing a strong biodiversity in the city.

The architecture will be dominated by nature with structures between the buildings inspired by large winter gardens or orangeries. The aim is also to encourage soft mobility in comfortable spaces and to promote meetings and interactions between neighbours. Water, which is filtered and recovered as much as possible, contributes to the acclimatisation of the facilities.

The challenge is to help open up the city by making it more inclusive, respectful of the environment and at the service of those who live in it.
