MARSEILLE AIRPORT CAR PARK Marseille (France) - 2013

General presentation

Contexte & enjeux

The know-how and experience of Sud Architects led to the construction of a mixed steel/concrete superstructure for a largely ventilated silo : 460 parking spaces were renovated and 950 created.
For comfort and legibility, each parking area is largely unobstructed; the choice of long-span frames (15m x 9.60m) limits the number of load-bearing verticals.
The architectural and technical choices of a dry, largely prefabricated construction site also made it possible to extend this long-term car park without disturbing the activity and functioning of its immediate environment.

The volume is distinguished by its plasticity on the airport platform: it is a cloud crossed by the furrows of the planes in flight, and held back by the vertical circulation shafts. The simplicity of this image makes the operation immediately legible.
The perforated metal envelope varies in sequence and describes functions and orientations. Its transparency guarantees protection, visibility and clarity, factors of comfort.
