STUDENT RESIDENCE DUMONT D’URVILLE CAMPUS Toulon (France) - 2021
General presentation
Contexte & enjeux
A successful project is always one that goes beyond the question posed. An equation must be solved with quantifiable data: budgets, surface areas, function, programme…. and with data that are not: beauty, conviviality, collective synergy….
Our project seeks to respond to all of these issues in a single gesture, in a synthetic and inclusive approach: a “patio” residence, organising through-housing around a fresh garden. This approach guides the entire design, justifying the form of the project, its meaning and its narrative. The result is a building that is intelligible and understandable. It can be shared and has the capacity to create a collective culture.
The building uses the original forms of architecture. A set of geometric, almost classical rules creates a framework within which uses can unfold in all their complexity: relaxing, working at home or in a group, exchanging, playing sports, strolling, washing clothes, storing a bicycle, parking a car, crossing the garden, etc.
