HOUSING, PANTIN

SUD architectes is pleased to share with you images of the winning design for the competition to design 54 housing units in Pantin. Located between Victor Hugo Street and the Ourcq Canal, the project sits on one of the last developable lots in this rapidly changing neighborhood.

It supports the conversion of a former industrial and commercial site into an open, landscaped, and sustainable residential complex, conceived as a self-contained urban neighborhood. The project is part of a clear vision: to create a lasting building with comfortable, adaptable housing units that are firmly rooted in their urban context.

The architectural style is intended to be both contemporary and timeless, sensitive to the identity of Pantin and Séquano-Dionysienne as well as to the surrounding suburban fabric. The choice of materials forms the foundation of this vision: a four-story base with solid stone facades, load-bearing and durable, combined with low-carbon concrete floors and wood-frame attics for their lightness and low carbon footprint.

The urban composition is organized around a landscape corridor, wider than the street itself, that structures the block, promotes open ground, biodiversity, and pockets of coolness, while opening up views of the canal. The housing units, most of which face multiple directions, feature generous outdoor spaces and are designed to be flexible, so they can adapt to changing family dynamics and future uses.

The project advocates a frugal approach to construction, where low carbon footprint, quality of use, and attention to the landscape come together to offer a more equitable and sustainable way of living in Pantin.

A different way of living in Pantin, in harmony with nature.
