SUD architectes is delighted to kick off the new school year and is sharing with you Luc Boegly’s photographs of ‘Next’, located in the heart of the ZAC (urban development zone) in the École Polytechnique neighborhood, on the Saclay Plateau in Palaiseau (78).
The project houses university dining facilities (2,200 m²) and office space (7,000 m²).
Located in the active base level, the dining offerings for employees and students forge strong ties with the public space and Agro ParisTech: an experimental restaurant, a self-service and connected area, and the CROUS’s large open-plan dining hall.
Above, the office section is organized into two buildings separated by a gap but connected by a glass passageway that crosses a hanging garden. Two monolithic sections in terracotta and copper represent the evolution of office architecture toward a more universal language.
The rigorous and orderly repetition of the window pattern creates a sort of architectural silence that is paradoxical given the building’s scale. The building features simple geometries that accommodate complex uses: an architecture that is accessible now and for the future.
‘Next’ is certified NF HQE Tertiary (Excellent level), Osmoz, BREEAM Very Good, Wired Score, and E3C1.
