LE MANOIR / EHPAD Caluire-et-Cuire - 2015
General presentation
Contexte & enjeux
The Manoir is a retirement home with 61 small rooms in a 19th century building opening onto a wooded park. The challenge of the project is to keep the same number of beds while offering a more comfortable welcome to the residents.
The volume of the extension is installed in the continuity of the existing building while being identified by its contemporary and simple architecture which aims to highlight the heritage already present. The junction between the two eras is treated by a glazed unit set back from the main facades. This transparent gap creates a visual continuity between the entrance hall and the garden while distributing the accommodation units on the floors.
The architectural approach is dictated by a desire for clarity, simplicity and functionality. The light grey colour of the new facades is in harmony with the existing building and the grey/beige shades of the stones framing the windows and large woodwork units.
The activity and entertainment areas on the lower ground floor are largely glazed onto the garden, while allowing full access for the residents. A walkway allows the residents to enjoy a site with many trees and shade.
