PARK AVENUE Lyon (France) - 2023

General presentation

Contexte & enjeux

“Park Avenue” in Lyon: an office building built in the late 80s by architects Gimbert and Vergély, and rehabilitated in 2023 by SUD architectes.

Rehabilitation is a singular exercise in which the integration of notions of heritage and transmission feeds a creative process aimed at adapting existing buildings to the uses and standards of an era.
The act of rehabilitation, often associated with restructuring, renovation, restoration or even repair, is seen by the agency as a way of enhancing the value of existing buildings.

The architectural approach is based on an analysis of the original building, its integration into its context and an understanding of its structural composition. The major challenge was to establish a dialogue with the existing building and its history, emphasizing its intrinsic qualities while giving it a resolutely contemporary image, comfort and operation.
This is reflected in a contemporary approach to proportions and volumes, materiality and the enhancement of exterior spaces. The creation of a gap, in continuity with the proposed architecture, makes it possible to integrate outdoor spaces overlooking the privileged environment of the Parc de la Tête d’Or.
“Park Avenue” has been awarded the BREEAM Very Good label.
