PARKING CHU Saint-Etienne (France) - 2026
General presentation
Contexte & enjeux
The successive developments of the North Hospital site have been carried out in a ‘concentric’ manner, resulting in densification in favour of new constructions and approaching saturation at its land limits.
This situation will continue to worsen, particularly with the expansion and restructuring of the Mother and Child Centre. The project aims to increase the site’s capacity by creating a 660-space multi-storey car park and a 180-space open-air car park. The car park is designed to accommodate two distinct types of users: hospital staff and the general public.
The car park will have a total of four parking levels (ground floor + three upper levels) covered by a photovoltaic power plant, giving it an average height of 13 metres (including the photovoltaic installation on the roof). We chose to propose a structure with the smallest possible footprint in order to free up land and improve its location
on this constrained site.
The strategic location of this structure guided us towards a design that highlights its own architectural identity without contradicting existing architectural codes. The proposed project thus asserts a specific architectural identity that is both attractive and recognisable from a distance thanks to the rhythm of its main façades.
