DEVELOPMENT OF THE VILLAGE CENTRE Viry (France) - 2023

General presentation

Contexte & enjeux

The proposed development guidelines favour the calming of the city centre along the north-south axis linking the different polarities of the city and leading to a large “compound park” dedicated to soft traffic, leisure, education and culture. These guidelines are set within a strict perimeter, affirming the desire for urban proximity.

The new town hall is located in the requalified historic building of the former primary schools, overlooking the town centre and at the link with the large park and the school group. A contemporary extension gives the building a modern, welcoming image with a certain presence.

The school group is organised in compact buildings that share outdoor spaces as much as possible and leave a maximum of pedestrian porosity towards the facilities and Villa Mary Street. It extends the urban continuity and strengthens the urban link between the lower and upper parts of the village.

By rethinking the parking areas and access to the residences, Villa Mary Street will be able to gradually change and eventually become a soft route in front of the school.

This organisation will make it possible to create quality public spaces, facilitating children’s journeys, their relationship with nature, games and encounters, but also to carry out sustainable ambitions: to densify, dewater and renaturalise the available land, to prescribe bio-climatic architecture and to take advantage of a marked topographical context.
