LES BATIGNOLLES URBAN DEVELOPMENT ZONE Paris (France) - 2019
General presentation
Contexte & enjeux
Within the Batignolles urban development zone, SUD Architects is developing 9,350 m² of retail space. Located on 2 blocks – developed in partnership with the Gaétan Le Penhuel and Saison-Menu agency – the project is at the junction of the new eco-district and historic Paris, at Pont Cardinet.
The shopping centre, at the exit of the new metro station of line 14, develops along the new main axis, from a generous hall. The shop crosses block O1 on three levels along a landscaped mall, then on two levels facing the generous urban square of block O3.
Making this programmatic interweaving of mobility, housing, shops and offices simple and legible was one of the crucial challenges of the project, particularly at ground floor level. This continuous floor extends beyond, serving the housing lobbies and allowing a great mix of uses.
The facades of the shopping centre, in architectural coherence with the whole of the programmes of these two lots, offer a strong identity to the site, playing on its density, by offering visual transparency both in terms of the programme and the urban environment.
